the time has come to draw proper player character portraits.. some need more polish than others, but it feels great to add them to the game. the ui feels complete with them in there. they feel right

had a bit of an epiphany re: my custom engine's map editor: it doesn't need to do things that are easily typed into a text file. the editor needs to draw tiles and visualize the map, but maybe it doesn't need a UI for events like buttons and chests when i can just type that out

map editor now saves and loads files

custom engine update:
- os auto-detects game and apps to list in the boot menu
- smooth loading/quitting of applications
- applications can set what dropdowns appear in top bar of os
- map editor development has begun

I've spent the past few days tinkering with love2d, exploring a concept for an engine that has 'hardware' limitations. this audio system has 6 channels and playing sfx mutes a channel of music while it's playing

being able to type math into godot's inspector like this is so handy. it constantly irks me when the software i use for my day job does not do this
