New Book: "For the Love of Bears"

TV presenter, Chris Tarrant reveals his love of bears with tales from around the world and his own expeditions to see bears in their stunning, natural habitats.

We have added a further Chinese site to our Directory of Captive Polar Bears: Xuzhou Ocean Polar World. Not a good place. We are still trying to find out more about the bear or bears there.

Bindhu Bear’s Remarkable Journey

A female sloth bear named Bindhu, on whom Wildlife SOS biologists placed a GPS collar, became the first documented sloth bear to embark on a long-distance journey, known as a long-distance dispersal.

Polar bear Kali has moved to the Toledo Zoo to “enhance the genetic diversity of this threatened species”. If successful his "partner" Crystal will become a mother again aged 27, at least 54 in human years. Of course she has no say in the matter.(Bear Cons photo of Kali) fox2now.com/news/missour...

Four polar bear cubs were born in captivity in Nov 2024. At Perm in Russia, Milka gave birth to an as yet unsexed cub. In Brazil at Sao Paulo Aquarium, Aurora gave birth to female Nur (pictured below) on 17 Nov. In Nyíregyháza Zoo in Hungary, Sznezsana gave birth to as yet unsexed twins.

There are around 300 captive polar bears in the world. Our comprehensive directory of these bears and the places they are kept keeps growing and is due to be fully completed later this year.
The latest addition is Yellé, presently in Quebec.

Light, the 11 year old male polar bear at Hirakawa Zoo in Japan, is moving to Sapporo Maruyama Zoo in a breeding attempt with Lila (10 years old). The move is due on 9 March.
