@mattfulton.bsky.social @danietreg.bsky.social Of all the revelations in Ben Elton’s autobiography, this is the one that flaws me: Daryl Somers thinks he can take on a role played by Hugh Laurie on the West End.

Finally saw the acclaimed play Stereophonic last night. It’s very long but doesn’t feel it, and a nice, almost ambient, journey into the world of 70s music, but it has a big problem: it’s not saying anything beyond that artists are perfectionists and gender politics are a bit messed up.

Vale Robert Redford. He was in so many great films but my favourite was All Is Lost, where he had just one word of dialogue. And it’s a corker.

Just realised the millennial’s DVDs are arranged in alphabetical order (by title). Which is correct, unless you have stand-up DVDs, then it’s by the stand-up’s surname, or music DVDs, then it’s by the band’s name or artist’s surname. This is important!

When I saw this poster, I thought it was a parody of a Rebel Wilson film. Then I realised it was a real Rebel Wilson film.

Today we have been riding the North Norfolk railway. Lots of old trains, and Weybourne station which you may recognise from an episode of Dad’s Army called “The Royal Train”. The railway was also used for Allo Allo and Hi-De-Hi.

Thumbs up for the M&S Dippy Egg (not Creme Egg) Hot Cross Buns. The buns don’t taste of chocolate but the “egg” filling is the required level of sugary silliness.

Finally, Ben Elton got @slapstickfest.bsky.social’s “Comedy Legend” award. He gave a great interview (hopefully on YouTube soon) and gave a brilliant acceptance speech and why comedy’s more important than ever. Aaawww. He got a cool Aardman mini Ben award too.

Great evening @slapstickfest.bsky.social last night. Samira Ahmed talked to Graeme Garden about the female performers in The Goodies (Marcelle Sammit, Tessa Wyatt, Jane Asher, etc). The Goodies stands out amongst shows from that era for creating great roles for women; nice to see that acknowledged.

Just been to see Saturday Night. Much better than the reviews suggested but I’m not sure I’ll quite recover from Milton Berle. (I’m sure many women didn’t!)
