Hi hello! I'm a science communicator and musician and artist and rock climber and runner and (half-assed programmer) and open-source advocate and maybe even your friend!
i do really need some new lav mics for @beanstem.org though. Just finished recording 543 for this week and turns out there's a TON of "the cable is broken" noise that... I *think* I can work around for this week? But I need some reliable mics for future work :L

The best thing is to just be aware of this. For max privacy, Signal has "disappearing messages". Messages self-destruct from your phone and recipients' phones. Remember -- those are the ONLY places message content is stored. So once it's gone from there, it's gone forever!

Most messenger apps, like Discord, just take your message in plain text (that is, unencrypted, in a human-readable format). They store that message on their servers so that chats can be filled in when a user is loading it for the first time.

Basically, the Signal messaging protocol takes your message, scrambles it, and then sends it to your recipient. Your recipient is the only one who was the un-scrambler for your message, so they un-scramble the message into what you sent!
