03/29/2025 - I fell asleep early last night. My Memere (my Mom’s mother) died while I was in college. She was a small, dignified, gentle woman. She worked hard for her family. She loved quietly.

I visited her grave in September 2024. It was the first time I had seen it since we laid her to rest.

She used a small dry erase board to lay out several options for her. Ms. Nikstad also put her recommendations online for KitKat. KitKat will be taking two science classes next year. I know, in part, it’s because of Ms. Nikstad. Pt. 3 Fin.

She spent so much time at Family Advocacy Day talking to us. She didn’t just focus on her class. She inquired about all of KitKat’s classes, her interests and her health.

Ms. Nikstad took the time to discuss what classes would be best for KitKat to take next year. Pt.2

03/28/2025 - Almost all of the Sumner Academy teachers and staff I have encountered over the years have been amazing. I have been particularly impressed this year with KitKat’s chemistry teacher, Ms. L. Nikstad. Ms. Nikstad loves the subject she teaches and pours herself into her students. Pt. 1

03/27/2025 - Every time I think I’m not a poetry fan, I’m somehow reminded of how much I love Maya Angelou’s poetry. This morning it was a reel of her reciting “Phenomenal Woman.” 1/2

03/25/2025 - Thank you to my SIL, Andrea Hoey, for the book recommendations over the years. You’ve never steered me wrong.

Our relationship has had its ups and downs but I will never forget what you are doing right now for our family. I’m grateful for you and proud to call you my SIL.

03/22/2025 - N.K. Jemisin writes sci-fi and fantasy novels. She has won three Hugo Awards. I love her Broken Earth trilogy. At the heart of the trilogy is a mother trying to save her daughter.

She writes strong female protagonists. I have her Inheritance trilogy in my TBR queue.

Besides being hysterical, I loved the way she interacted with the audience, even taking questions from the audience. 2/2

03/20/2025 - I knew I should have posted before getting sucked into March madness yesterday.

Listening to good stand up comedy relieves stress for me. I’ve followed Kristin Key online for a while. Josh and I had the opportunity to see her routine in person when she came to KC last September. 1/2

She was ahead of her time, attending and graduating college. She wanted to major in music but her Dad told her no. Instead, she became a dietitian.

I miss both of them dearly. Pt. 2

03/17/2025 - My favorite holiday!! I’ve spent most of the day thinking of my Dad, Patrick Hoey, and Ahnie (my Dad’s Mom).

Ahnie loved sports. Some of my favorite memories and stories involve going to or watching St. Louis Cardinals games with her.

I love you, your sassiness, your kindness to others and the reels you send me! You leave an impression on everyone, even the security guards at CMH remember you. The way you have learned to prioritize and maintain your GPA even with your health issues is a testament to your grit. 2/3

Her cooking is delicious from her caramel rolls to her soup. She makes beautiful quilts.

She accepted me into her family with open arms even though she didn’t really know me. I hope I’ve been half as good a DIL to her as she’s been a MIL to me. 2/2
