With @platformpuffwatch.bsky.social coming to an end, I’ll need a new project. Anyone playing around with #meshtastic?

If you’re looking to do something similar, I can highly recommend the fan module linked here that makes this installation possible: www.printables.com/model/526778...

At idle, the CPU is running 4°C lower with the new fan. And on top of that, it is so much quieter than the stock fan.

Today was Jonsbo N2 fan upgrade day. The stock fan is quite noisy so I picked up this Noctua fan.

The fan is 25 mm deep, which is too deep to install without a custom bracket. Here are photos of the fan, the custom bracket, and after installation - super clean and really happy with the results.

It’s been a few weeks since I posted about the NAS project. Been loving self-hosting and would recommend to all! At this point, I’m nearly independent of all cloud services. The only thing left in my iCloud is obsidian. On iPhone the only way to sync across devices is to have your vault on iCloud.

The only thing I forgot to purchase was SATA cables. :/

Initial thoughts:

1. Really impressed with the quality of the Jonsbo Case.
2. Cable management is the second most difficult part of the build. Second to finding manuals for the gear I bought!
3. PSU’s are stupid money.

It’ll run TrueNas only. I plan to repurpose a Mac Mini to run services in the next few months.

Parts are as follows:

Corsair SF750 PSU
ASRock B550M-ITX/AC
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
Jonsbo N2 case
Crucial 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM
Samsung 990 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD
WD Reds

Working on a NAS build. Really, really disappointed in capitalism these days. My goal is to reclaim my data, just as I would reclaim my money with #SkipTheTip.

The plan is to pull my data off the cloud, except for cloud based backups to Backblaze.

5/6. I’m not anti-worker. I believe workers deserve fair wages from employers, not customers subsidizing basic transactions through guilt and exhaustion. #SkipTheTip

4/6. #SkipTheTip is an app that eliminates guilt and helps you save money. Set goals, track your progress, and analyze where you can save money and where you are fighting back against tipping manipulation.

3/6. It wasn’t just about the money. It’s also about decision fatigue. Every simple transaction now requires a moral calculation: “Is this worth 20%? Will I look cheap? What’s the ‘right’ amount?” A coffee run shouldn’t be an ethical dilemma. #SkipTheTip
September 15, 2025 at 8:09 PM
2/5. I was tired of feeling guilty for declining tips on transactions that never traditionally required them. Tired of watching people tip 20%+ for grabbing a pre-made sandwich from a counter. Tired of the social pressure around every simple purchase. #SkipTheTip #TipPressure #TippingFatigue

1/5. Remember when tips were for sit-down restaurants and your bartender or server? Now every bisiness with a self-checkout kiosk, and retail store has a tip screen starting at 18-25%. Whether intentional or not, it’s shifting the burden of fair wages from employers to customers. #SkipTheTip

So this weekend’s project was turning my spreadsheet into a free calculator that helps #petparents comfortably transition their #dogs to new #dogfood 🐾

This was the motivation behind creating the spreadsheet. I wanted to transition between foods based on each foods specific caloric content. #Dogs #DogFoodCalculator
September 7, 2025 at 6:00 PM
The issue is that the generic "mix gradually over a week" advice ignores caloric density: two foods can look identical in a measuring cup but have completely different nutritional values.

Years ago I created a spreadsheet to help me build food transition schedules for my dogs, and eventually my family and friends started asking me to create schedules for their dogs too. #DogParents #PetNutrition #DogHealth

The upgrade to the M2 burrs effectively turns the Encore model into a Virtuoso.

It took about 25 minutes. The grind is much faster and seems more consistent. You'll see how this grinder is built. With parts support through Baratza, it could last a lifetime.
August 31, 2025 at 1:32 PM
As a builder, there is something very satisfying about taking something physical and improving its function or making it work again.
August 31, 2025 at 1:16 PM
A relatively recent non-software project was upgrading the burrs on my #Baratza Encore grinder.

I have to give a shout-out to companies that support old products with parts. Too many devices are planned for obsolescence, and we can thank corporate America for that.
