Powers are the angels that go to war with forces of evil on behalf of humanity. Another candidate for the ever popular guardian angels, they keep evil in check.

Powers are known to guard and guide the hands of God’s ordained Kings and Queens, as their decisions impact the fates of many.

Dominions, as their name may suggest, have dominion over the cosmic order.

These angels maintain the delicate balance of the Heavens quite literally! They oversee the stars and planets while also keeping their fellow angels in line. You might call them “Heaven’s Bureaucrats”.

Next are the Virtues. These are well known to make up Heaven’s choir, singing God’s praises.

Virtues are known to govern storms, strong winds, & assist with miracles- healings in particular. Naturally they assist humanity & may be guardian angels.

Cherubim

The cherubim are not fat faced babies but rather four faced, four winged creatures with a single “rigid” leg. They have the faces of man, ox, lions, & eagles.

Some debate the archangels are cherubim.

Cherubim do much work, including protecting the garden of Eden & delivering messages.

Thrones or “Ophanim”.

Thrones are recently popular & often chosen to represent “biblically accurate angel”. They are flaming wheels of eyes that pull the chariot of God.

Despite being associated with horror are considered docile & maintain the harmony of all creation, ever in His presence.

Seraphim - the “fiery” ones.

Seraphim is the plural of “seraph”. They are beings of fire with six wings that circle the throne of God crying “holy, holy, holy!” As noted in Isaiah.

They may be described as flames or humanoid, but the six wings are their giveaway & their fire is “one of passion”.

are also highly favored and serve God directly. How they may be ranked among the lowest order is subject of much debate.

However this can be explained by their sense of personality which I trust will make sense shortly-

Further more, it is unanimously agreed that Michael & Gabriel are the favored two among all angels.

Which one you assign to the left or right hand of God doesn’t matter- the position is accredited to no other beings. God has elevated these 2 archangels above all their fellows. The other archangels

the third are the “lowest”(as low as any angel may be).

However there is much to be disputed here. Across many Abrahamic faiths we see archangels considered not so much a “species” as the others are, but rather a title that might be bestowed to any angel.

Pseudo-Dionysius divides the angels into 3 major orders:

1) Thrones, Cherubim, & Seraphim
2) Virtues, Powers, & Dominations
3) Archangels, Angels, & Principalities
