Just a tiny bit downriver (and visible from Harper's Ferry) is the second water gap at Weverton Cliffs. Easier to climb than the Maryland Heights and part of the Appalachian Trail.

The "graffiti" on the cliffs is pretty hardcore ... some is over a century old and is chiseled into the stones.

NIST runs some multi-agency groups for similar topics. Sometimes it helps if the convener isn't one of the big dogs in the technical weeds. This is the Windstorm Impact Reduction group (NOAA, FEMA, NSF, etc.):

I think it depends a little on how you experience it ... if you've been watching it for years, each year's line grows like an animation from "frame to frame".

If you are dropping in on it cold, and seeing it once statically, it probably feels less intuitive.
