Canadian, Husband and Dad. Unashamed reader of history, member of the afflicted club fascinated by WW2. I'm saving up my pennies so I can join the the WHW Independent Company.
Should Ottawa have a street named after him in the airport area? There must be a long list of aviation pioneers we can chose from who did not have fascist tendencies.

Here is the WW2 war list located on the same Cenotaph.

The Cenotaph in Salt Sping Island, British Columbia, Canada. There are too many lost with the same last name. Tragically, the losses in WWI are triple of those lost in WW2. @sommecourt.bsky.social

Walter Spurrell of Trinity Newfoundland was drowned, along with the crew of SS Torrington, after being torpedoed by U-55 in April 1917. I was unaware of this incident and the role of the U-Boats Captain until now. Much of what happened is available on Wiki. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Torr...

The cenotaph in Chester, Nova Scotia, Canada. I am always shaken by the war lists of those killed in WW1. All of these small Canadian coastal villages who contributed so many men to the CEF, and who never returned. @sommecourt.bsky.social

The Cenotaph in Trinity, Newfoundland, Canada. A moving tribute to those lost while serving with the Royal Navy and in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. @sommecourt.bsky.social

@ww1cemeteries.bsky.social @tonypollard.bsky.social @footstepspod.bsky.social I stopped at the village cenotaph in Paris Ontario, Canada. These boys from South Western Ontario filled the ranks of many 1st and 2nd Canadian Division battalions in the CEF, 1914-1918, as well as the Canadian Army 39-45.

On this day, 1917, my grandfather was about to take part in the attack on Vimy Ridge during the Battle of Arras. 2nd Canadian Divisional Trench Mortors, Y Battery. The notes in his pocket diary are pretty straightforward. Remarkable.

I remember watching Pink Floyd's The Wall when it was first released. One quick image at the beginning of the film rang a bell. The original image is of Canadian casualties in WW1. I saw this image in a book of Canadian war photographs.

I am wondering the same thing, and then I think of all the American idiots I have met in the past, and it all makes sense.

Sad, but it seems to be true. All Americans need to look in the mirror every morning and say to themselves, do I want to live in a country that wants tax cuts for the the rich, and paying for it out of their own pockets. Last time I checked, there were no tariffs on yachts and Rolex watches.

We spent all we had to purchase under the Cash and Carry plan. The Lend Lease debts were not fully repaid until 2006. Let's not forget that for the commonwealth, saving civilization came had huge financial costs as well as human costs. Rationing in the UK did not end until 1954.

As of February 20, 2025, the U.S. national debt was $36.22 trillion. These tariffs and have more to do with USA miss management than border issues. The citizens want tax cuts, new cars and trips to Disney Land. And they want the rest of the world to pay for it. Good luck in your next war neighbor.
