Next year instead of carrying strings of Xmas lights up to my roof on a ladder, I'm going to carry each individual bulb up a much longer ladder to a helicopter hovering a mile above my roof, assemble the strings of lights, and drop them down onto the roof. That way I'll have gravity working for me!

Sounds like you're going to need about three barrels of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a barrel of Cocchi Americano, and a hell of a lot of ice.

That's that famous courage that only comes from the Italian subelement of Scotch-Irish Anglo-derived culture 🙄

Yeah, he definitely switched from "erasure" to "balkanization" at the end there.

Trump amnesia is so strong that even Trump forgot the first time he was president:

Senator Schiff, I appreciate your holding the line, but reforming ICE doesn't go far enough in ensuring our constitutional rights or a humane immigration policy. We existed as a nation for 226 years without ICE and we can do so again. It's time to Abolish ICE.

Serious question: what happens when Trump the president orders Bessent to have the IRS negotiate a settlement with Trump the plaintiff? Can a judge throw out a settlement if there's a blatant conflict of interest like that?

I had an almost identical encounter in a casino in Vegas with Gallagher, the watermelon-smashing comedian. We made eye contact and he gave me the most pissed-off-in-advance look I've ever gotten from another human being.

Probably the same sort of people who believe that "Markwayne" is an actual name rather than an indicator that all four of your grandparents were first cousins.

Unfortunately I don't believe Massie has the unredacted files in his possession; DOJ set up a secure viewing room (no recording devices or other electronics) for members of Congress to view them, but there's no way for Massie to disseminate them.

None of which come from the other branches of the federal govt. High school civics classes teach checks and balances like they're a three-way game of rock-paper-scissors: each branch has power over the others. But that model doesn't work when one player can remove the others from the game.
February 6, 2026 at 2:38 PM
Exactly. The only real checks on Congress's power are (1) being voted out of office, (2) needing state ratification for constitutional amendments, and (3) division within itself making it difficult to get the supermajorities needed to exercise its greatest powers (impeachment and overriding vetoes).

-Go to the polls in groups to prevent intimidation
-Encourage others to register to vote. Check your own registration before election day.
-If able, donate to orgs that defend election integrity (see suggestions here (gift link): www.nytimes.com/2026/01/31/o...

We need to flood the zone right back!

-Know your rights and educate others on theirs
-Volunteer as a poll worker and/or observer
-Call your governor, SOS, county officials to demand elections stay local if/when Trump threatens to "federalize" them. Deploy the National Guard if we have to!
