We've all been there at least once lmao. I screwed up my 2nd Ubuntu install by completely uninstalling Python3.

Mint has been my main distro for a while! I started out with Ubuntu, then moved to Mint and stayed there all the way to today.

I tried Debian out of curiosity more than anything, and now that I have, I see why a lot of people like it. It's nothing fancy, it's just a stable distro you can depend on.

I thought it was boring, which is excellent in my opinion! I used it for around a month, and it just worked, no issues to speak of.

No problem! Sounds like you should have an easy time then! A lot of the problems I've experienced on Linux involved trying to run a game, or trying to get a game to run correctly. It has gotten a lot better in that regard recently though.

I actually use Linux Mint! I've used it for around 5 years now.

As far as what is a step up from Mint/Ubuntu, I don't really have an opinion. I suppose it depends on your personal needs/wants. E.g., if you mostly play games, I've heard that Bazzite has great HW support and game performance OOTB.

AI-generated code, we can just make a fork of the kernel before any of that was put in, and keep AI-generated code out of the fork afterwards.
December 17, 2025 at 12:57 AM
The point I'm trying to make is that Linux Mint isn't suddenly going to start shoving AI tools and such down your throat because of this. What is included in a Linux distro is up to the maintainers of the distro. They can reject all AI tools and features. If the kernel itself starts including --

I'm trying out Vivaldi at the moment, so far I think it's solid. It's just a browser with good, non-annoying features built-in. No AI tools/features pre-installed as well.

Hah, I never knew about Minigalaxy!

Well, hopefully all goes well for you friend!

that you can filter the games by OS on their website.

Steam and GOG work very well on Steam. EA Origin and EGS require tools to run the launchers because they do not support Linux natively.

For Steam, ProtonDB (www.protondb.com) is useful for finding out if games in your library work well under Linux. I don't use GOG all that often, but I do know --

Do you mostly use Steam?

You could try a fork of Firefox, like Librewolf or Waterfox. If you don't mind Chromium-based browsers, there is Vivaldi, but I haven't tried that one before, so I can't say how good it is.

Hope it goes well!

Like not being able to select power profiles? If that's the case, I'm not sure.
December 17, 2025 at 12:02 AM
Welcome to the club! I've been using Linux Mint for around 5 years now, it's a really great distro!
December 16, 2025 at 11:54 PM
Just saying, this doesn't mean that all Linux distros will now have AI baked in. Distros will still be able to ship without any AI tools or anything like that pre-installed.
December 16, 2025 at 11:45 PM
I've never had a problem connecting wirelessly. I've always stuck to distros based on Ubuntu, like Linux Mint, because they've always had the least amount of issues for me.

You could look at Bazzite:
bazzite.gg

I've heard from a lot of people that it's pretty solid out-of-the-box, even with Nvidia GPUs.

Bazzite makes gaming and everyday use smoother and simpler across desktop PCs, handhelds, tablets, and home theater PCs.
