Thought Leadership for Helsing - AI to Protect Our Democracies | Chair @DSI_Strategy |🇺🇦🇪🇺🇩🇪🇨🇿🇬🇧 | #NeoIdealism | Post=personal, Repost ≠ endorse. Views mine
Great to be back in London, and back on Whitehall for the RUSI Military Technology Conference 2025.

Our ability to master military change at a time of disruptive technological shift will define the security of our democracies
- and our free future.

Czechia’s standing & influence have been strongest when it has been strongest in its embodiment of & support for freedom & democratic values.

Using AI to protect our democracies.
Delivering autonomous mass for a strong Europe.

Really looking forward to presenting Helsing & our mission at a crucial time
for European security today at the Warsaw Security Forum - if you’re here come and join us in the Chicago Room from 1130-1200
(I’ll be on at about 1145/1150

We must not only spend more, but better. Europe needs real new capabilities.

Strong start to the Defence Track at the #WarsawSecurityForum

- interesting also to hear mention of the ‘Drone Wall’ already in the intro …

So proud of this.
Giving Europe its spine back.
Today we unveiled CA-1 Europa - Helsing’s upcoming autonomous combat aircraft built around the Centaur AI pilot. We’re building CA-1 to protect our continent, our freedom, & our values.
AI to protect our democracies.

Off to Munich for a Thought Leadership session this evening & an exciting Helsing event tomorrow.

We’ve no time to waste in boosting European deterrence & need to work out how to best use autonomy & affordable mass systems to do so -& how that impacts our doctrine, missions & roles. Let’s go!

“Russia is learning, adapting & becoming more lethal in Ukraine.

“We must move from a peacetime mindset to wartime readiness.

We must reward the bold & the innovative. We need mass production of new technologies.”

Storming speech from🇸🇪 Defence Minister Pål Jonson in Berlin
September 23, 2025 at 11:01 AM
It was my honour to speak in the 🇨🇿 Parliament alongside D/Foreign Minister @janmarian.bsky.social, MP @MartinExner & journalist @RayBasely & a great audience at @nafoczsk.bsky.social’s event on civil society, hybrid war & how we win.

Societal resilience is not a task we can delegate to others.
September 20, 2025 at 7:42 AM
Can AI Fight?
Yes! And it will have to if Europe’s democracies are to defend ourselves against the brutal tactics of our authoritarian enemies.

Leveraging AI to deliver autonomous mass capabilities will give us the edge over enemies that don’t care about taking mass human casualties.
IF … 🧵
September 18, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Together we’re accelerating the tech we need, across domains, to harness democracies’ inherent advantage in delegated decision & coordinates this with massive & concentratable precision firepower, guided by massed precision sensors.

Because that’s what it will take to protect our democracies.
September 17, 2025 at 7:53 AM
And, as always there was huge interest in our AI fighter pilot, Centaur, which flew a real SAAB Gripen fighter jet in a BVR combat simulation over the Baltic Sea this year - and which now engages in 2v2 BVR simulations.
September 17, 2025 at 7:53 AM
Together, we engaged with the huge numbers of politicians, officials, military leaders, defence experts, journalists, business people & members of the public keen to know more about how we move to affordable, autonomous mass that our AI-enabled HX-2 strike drones & SG-1 underwater gliders epitomise.
September 17, 2025 at 7:53 AM
The whole @HelsingAI team worked out socks off - but happily so! It’s really great to have such super colleagues with whom it’s both fascinating & fun to undertake this most serious of missions).
September 17, 2025 at 7:53 AM
What a week it was at the Helsing stand at #DSEI in London!
Amazing interest in Helsing’s work but also so much understanding of the value of the transformation we’re bringing to European defence.
September 17, 2025 at 7:53 AM
My key takeaway
🚨we have to arm ourselves effectively, fast & in depth or we will be vulnerable to authoritarian coercion & risk being subjugated to tyranny.⛔️

To do this, Europe needs to leverage its strengths in innovation & industry & switch to affordable, agile & autonomous mass. // END
September 15, 2025 at 9:41 AM
The strategic dynamics outlined here are exactly those we need to be thinking through - in order to prevent them from happening or, as @carlomasala1.bsky.social notes we risk “the democratic form of government” and endanger “how we live and how we want to live”
- the stakes could not be higher.🧵
September 15, 2025 at 9:41 AM
Highly recommended (& now in English)
- A quick but V.impactful read from German IR prof & leading public intellectual @carlomasala1.bsky.social

We can quibble with details or turns the scenario takes (eg, I’m sure Estonians would fight all-in for Narva, with knock-on effects for allies). BUT …🧵

I joined Helsing for this mission - using AI to protect democracies by boosting our defence capabilities & seizing tech leadership for free societies in a hostile & competitive world.

There’s been huge interest in our work at DSEI
- but our govts have to act fast & at scale, we’ve no time to lose.
September 11, 2025 at 2:53 PM
European NATO states must produce a strong response or invite coercion.

That response must be credible.

Russia’s latest escalation shows why we need to build our military capabilities much faster - getting tanks or jets in 10 years won’t deter Russia now, when we need to.
September 11, 2025 at 9:43 AM
No doubt about where I am for work this week! But there’s no time for sightseeing in London
as I’m with the Helsing team at DSEI so, instead

- Come and see us and see the tech that Europe needs to strengthen its defence now
- And get a glimpse of how we can master the future battlefield
September 9, 2025 at 8:35 AM
Europe’s defence is at a critical juncture - one which will determine whether it’s dawn or dusk for our democracies.

I’m on the road early, heading for London & DSEI to show more key players the capabilities that we provide to bolster our sovereign defence & give Europe its spine back.

Fed up of empty promises, 🇨🇿 Gen Řehka was absolutely clear about why & how Europe has to start:

💪 genuinely standing up for ourselves,

⛔️causing Russia dilemmas (rather than letting them set red lines) and punishing transgressions

💥embracing & accelerating the transformation of our militaries
September 7, 2025 at 6:03 PM
- Our deeds must match our words.
- Deterrence needs real capabilities.
- Embrace AI in the military.

My highlight of the IISS #PragueDefenceSummit was the storming speech from 🇨🇿 ChoD Gen. Karel Rehka, whO’d quite clearly had enough of empty promises around Europe.

My key takeaway
Europe needs affordable, attritable & AI-enabled mass defence capabilities to give us the edge against authoritarians.

That means getting new tech out of the innovation corner & into our militaries at scale so they can work out how best to use it.
