Started WTANR assuming groups would populate a blank hexmap with terrain and locations randomly generated as they moved from various Points A to Points B. Lately I'm drawn to the idea of going mapless. Makes the world less predictable, keeps players worrying about what's around the next corner.
The top half is dominated by the title in large, bold letters in a glitchy and cramped style. It reads... WHERE THERE ARE NO ROADS This is against a starfield that becomes more densely populated with stars as we move down the image until an arm of the Milky Way is plainly visible above a black horizon. The sideview silhouette of an all-terrain vehicle packed with cargo is parked on that horizon. A lone figure, also in silhouette and presumably the driver, stands atop it. He or she appears to be looking into those stars.

The cover for the 1994 Cyberpunk sourcebook NeoTribes which introduces/expands upon the Nomad character class, the in-world history of Nomads, and what they get up to in the present day so you can get an idea of life outside of the big cities and play as a Nomad or a whole group of them. The cover features a rather rough and tumble crew and their modified vehicles. The overall vibe is like Mad Max filtered through more sci-fi detritus. In the setting, Nomad clans or tribes or families (I think the terminology has changed over various editions? Or maybe it depends on the scale of the particular Nomad group in question?) are folks who brave the vast wilds and wastelands between the major cities of North America delivering goods and personnel and contraband. We tend to find a higher than expected number of Native Americans among the Nomads possibly because many of them come from rural communities particularly the Southwest. It’s nice they made an effort to include more Native representation in their setting, but I worry this would have suffered from the kinda embarrassing ‘90s fascination with Native culture that often went no deeper than some throwing around some superficial aesthetics.

An excerpt of a page I turned to randomly in the ULTRA Field Manual. CONSTANT VARIABLES, Chapter 2: Any OE, but especially COE, involving SOD or NSOD or transit between them, can be defined in terms of eleven constant variables. They are most useful in defining the varying natures of specific OEs. Their possible combinations will vary according to the specific situation and variations in the local constants of physical systems. In this sense, these constant variables may vary, even constantly, across a variety of matrices which can vary according to the variable constants of each individual case. Variously, these constant variables are interrelated and overlap constantly. Different constant variables will be more or less important in a variety of situations. Each COE varies because the constant variables of each operation constantly vary. Only by understanding these variables and then constantly varying our responses according to the constant states of the variables can TFU keep its various adversaries from constantly using these and other variables to find ways to leverage them to their own advantage (ex: varying universal constants).

Haven’t played Heavy in weeks, but just carried a team through a Stratagem mission all the same.

Still got it, baby!
The end of mission screen that shows all yer stats for the run you just did. I scored the most kills, ranged damage, melee damage, the most items found, and zero incapacitations. The only things I flubbed was taking the most damage and failing to revive teammates BECAUSE I WAS A LITTLE BUSY DOING EVERYTHING but in a fun way.
