A well constructed funeral service can hold these emotions and experiences that might seem to be at odds. We need not push grief and loss out the door in order to allow hope in.

This speaks to our cultures in ability to hold disparate multitudes at once.

So if you don’t want politics in church then I suggest you find a church where Jesus isn’t present. Jesus’ message and ministry has political implications, because poverty, healthcare, immigration, and more are political.
