Worth thinking about. I’m a mobile dev who occasionally needs a backend service - the general path has been ‘pick up enough AWS skills to put something together’ but I wonder if it’s time to go back to ‘jack of all trades Unix admin’ for this.

I wonder if the underlying motivation is “cruelty” and/or “these people don’t matter” rather than “cheap”

What’s your recommendation for someone starting something now? Particularly starting w/o an existing audience

We had professional packers for 2 moves with the military. They were amazing. Packed everything in about half a day. Plates and glasses wrapped very well. My job was to hold the clipboard w the box list and stay out of the way.

To me, two main risks are performance and 3rd party risk. I worked on an app w a streaming video player, and native was better from mem usage and crashes. 3rd party risk is - what if this platform isn’t important to them any more. Xamarin went through this. Anecdote not data
