What happens when men’s and women’s policy preferences diverge? Our analysis shows political elites tend to favor men’s preferences. The greater the disagreement, the more decisions align with what men want.

Descriptive evidence shows gender preference gaps across different types of public policies. Men and women disagree most on gender-specific policies (e.g., gender quotas in management or politics), which polarizes their preferences.
