I finally fulfilled my ambition to visit the famous Saihōji Moss Temple in Kyoto. The mosses were looking their best in the pouring rain. For once I had to resist studying them, and simply submit to their beauty.

BBS members getting stuck in to the marl pits at the joint Wessex/Southern Group meeting to Marlborough Deeps in the New Forest. Highlights include the uncommon calcicole of wet places Kandaea elodes.

Well that's a coincidence. I was in the New Forest on 13/10 and spotted this. Didn't see you there though 🤔😂

Yes I do. Not very often, but usually when they occur there are multiple infections on the same plant. Here's one stained with lactofuchsin

My son sent this picture of a sign at the Temple of Saiho-ji in Kyoto. Makes a nice change from "Keep off the Grass".

After a rather dull morning on an acid millstone grit on the BBS Spring Meeting we decided to have a look along the R.Wharfe. Andrew found a large patch of Bryum gemmiferum, with abundand tiny gemmae.

Second day of BBS Spring Field Meeting. Spring Wood, Kettlewell, was a rich site with some lovely plants including the limestone crevice specialists Pedinophyllum interruptum, Orthothecium intricatum, and Mnium marginatum.

Splendid first day in Wharfedale for the BBS Spring Meeting. Lots of interesting plants at Conistone including Grimmia dissimulata, Serpoleskea confervoides and Rhytidium rugosum. A varied site that included limestone pavement and a sheltered wooded valley provided plenty of excellent habitat,
