As someone who "graduated" from a BDB to the Bianca a couple of years ago, there is something fundamentally satisfying about pulling espresso on something that is less like an appliance and more like a precision machine.

Where does the general disdain for conical burrs come from? I've talked with coffee professionals who consider conical burrs only fit for rank amateurs. Strictly a budget option.

Plenty of resources over on @coffeegeek.com to help you get that sorted out. The first of which is likely to throw out that single cup basket and use the double. Also, if the handle is pointing out of the machine at roughly 90° you're in the right place.

I think it only makes sense that if you can boil a grinder down to burrs and a crankshaft, without a motor and all the accompanying electronics, that you could end up with a more cost-effective grinding option.
