US military budget: $850 billion

US National Institutes of Health indirect costs: $9 billion

That they are so focused on cutting the budget of the latter says everything.

My first week of lung transplant outpatient medicine since joining Northwestern is refreshing! Missed having the full team behind me with full circle patient care. Keeping me busy enough to keep my head from spinning from all the other stuff going on with the world this week.

Since we’re entering the last month of 2024, here is a non-systematic review of #pulmcrit trials published this year that I found particularly noteworthy. Not comprehensive, so please include any that I may have missed!

The real barriers to meaningful research aren’t lack of ideas, enthusiastic participants, driven scientists - they’re academic legal, REB, and administrative delays.

I’ve been told to build relationships with these teams but there’s so much turnover, it’s like every project is the 1st. Ideas?
