The Reds' test moving forward is player dev. Can they get steps forward from their young potential stars? W/ good player dev, they have plenty of talent.

TM's improved spring FB addressed his root problem. He is at a point of needing refinements to return to form. I think the Chernoff quote points to the progress made & Meisel quote the distance to go.

We agree the FB was TM's worst pitch last year. Drop in velo and movement. Got hammered. Right?
We agree the FB has been better this spring. Right?
We agree the CB wasn't up to '22 standards. Right?
We disagree about the root problem. You say CB. I say FB.

He threw a career-high rate of CBs in '24 and a career-low rate of FBs in '24.
If the CB was the problem last year, then why is he throwing it at a career-high rate?

The FB was the big problem. It's been better this spring, but it is still not there yet.

I've been constently claiming that McKenzie's biggest problem is his FB and the spring is a step forward.
You've been claiming the CB is the biggest problem over the past few years and simply wrong.

Chernoff is only talking about the FB as the problem.

"Triston, when he came into camp, it was like a new guy," said Chernoff. "The ride on the fastball was back, the velocity was back. He was letting loose, and we saw that sort of in the short stints in his live BPs . . . 1/2

My claim is poor FB control led to consistently pitching behind. TM used CBs in hitter's counts & not only as an out pitch. He had to overuse the CB b/c he lacked FB control.
Again, I'll ask why throw more CBs if it is the problem pitch?

Here is my problem with your interpretation of the data. If the CB is the root problem, why is TM throwing it more?
I watched him struggle early w/ FB control and turn to throwing SLs and CBs on 3-1 counts. He is not doing that if your theory is correct.
