So true. Our society is obsessed with optics and care little for how things actually work.

How did Miami and Colorado get excluded?

I thought I would hate Kruk as an analyst. He'd lean hard into a persona. We'd get takes from someone playing dumb. But he has remained pretty genuine (as far as I can tell). If he can avoid becoming a caricature of himself, he could be one of the great storytellers of the game.

Such a boring and unimaginative conspiracy.

Loved Doyle. If only he could have cut down on the chase rate.

But it allowed mediocre bagel eaters to excel in power and contact eating?

It's a talented bunch. And it's both pitching and positional players. One thing about Tito-led teams: They tend to be second half teams. So, patience will be important.

Wrist sprain on the slide.

Do you have someone in mind? I can't think of someone that the Reds let go and is playing well elsewhere.
March 29, 2025 at 10:10 PM
The Reds aren't the analytics poster children (see CLE & TB). And Francona isn't the old school poster child (see his CLE years).

The Reds' test moving forward is player dev. Can they get steps forward from their young potential stars? W/ good player dev, they have plenty of talent.

In case of a rainout.

Gore looked great. But I would still put the Phillies as a top 5 offense by year's end. Maybe more about Gore reaching his potential than Phillies' offensive woes.

I'm saying w/o the improved spring FB, TM would be cut and no one would be talking about the CB.

TM's improved spring FB addressed his root problem. He is at a point of needing refinements to return to form. I think the Chernoff quote points to the progress made & Meisel quote the distance to go.
March 24, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Let me try this a different way:

We agree the FB was TM's worst pitch last year. Drop in velo and movement. Got hammered. Right?

We agree the FB has been better this spring. Right?

We agree the CB wasn't up to '22 standards. Right?

We disagree about the root problem. You say CB. I say FB.
(1/2)
March 24, 2025 at 10:48 PM
Ugh. I explained this already.

He threw a career-high rate of CBs in '24 and a career-low rate of FBs in '24.

If the CB was the problem last year, then why is he throwing it at a career-high rate?
March 24, 2025 at 12:08 AM
The freakin' GM of the Guardians is making my point.
The FB was the big problem. It's been better this spring, but it is still not there yet.
March 23, 2025 at 11:57 PM
You're entirely disingenuous.
I've been constently claiming that McKenzie's biggest problem is his FB and the spring is a step forward.
You've been claiming the CB is the biggest problem over the past few years and simply wrong.
March 23, 2025 at 11:54 PM
and some of the early sim game outings he had. And then he struggled a little bit as he was in the rotation and trying for that spot. So we wanted an opportunity to see him out of the bullpen."
Chernoff is only talking about the FB as the problem.
March 23, 2025 at 11:51 PM
Here is Chernoff talking about McKenzie,
"Triston, when he came into camp, it was like a new guy," said Chernoff. "The ride on the fastball was back, the velocity was back. He was letting loose, and we saw that sort of in the short stints in his live BPs . . . 1/2

Illusion. A trick is something a whore does for money . . . or candy.
March 22, 2025 at 5:02 PM
We agree CB was better in the past and CB is the out pitch.

My claim is poor FB control led to consistently pitching behind. TM used CBs in hitter's counts & not only as an out pitch. He had to overuse the CB b/c he lacked FB control.

Again, I'll ask why throw more CBs if it is the problem pitch?
March 18, 2025 at 7:00 PM
We agree that CB wasn't as good last year.

Here is my problem with your interpretation of the data. If the CB is the root problem, why is TM throwing it more?

I watched him struggle early w/ FB control and turn to throwing SLs and CBs on 3-1 counts. He is not doing that if your theory is correct.
