Bò né (which literally translates to dodging beef) is a Vietnamese dish typically eaten for breakfast

Puppies of Saigon!

One of our favorite things to do in Vietnam is meet friendly dogs such as this guy.

This little fella lives in our neck of the woods and loves to greet comers and goers from the neighborhood.

Over the last couple days I drove from Dalat to Dong Nai and on to Ho Chi Minh City

Day 16 of the Vietnam 🇻🇳 motorbike odyssey is in the books

Today I rode from the coastal city of Nha Trang up into the mountains and finally onto beautiful (but rainy) Dalat

The road heading west into the central highlands was awesome and brought some reprieve from the heat!

Day 15 of the Vietnam 🇻🇳 motorbike odyssey is in the books

Today my little Honda carried me from Quy Nhon to Nha Trang (270 km)

I chose to take the inland route which is longer than the coastal route but far more enjoyable to drive

Most of the journey was via the beautiful QL19C!

Day 14 of the Vietnam 🇻🇳 motorbike odyssey is in the books

Today I drove from Da Nang to Quy Nhon (325 km)

Routes DT129 and DT639 were amazing, QL1 not so much!

Overall the ride was excellent though as I saw beautiful fishing towns and isolated stretches of coast!

Day 13 of the Vietnam 🇻🇳 motorbike odyssey is in the books

On this day I rode from Đông Hà to Da Nang.

I started the day heading east on a small provincial road before linking up with QL49B

This took me down the coast and eventually to the famed Hai Van Pass

Day 12 of the Vietnam 🇻🇳 motorbike odyssey is in the books

Today I traveled from Phong Nha down the coastal plain to Đông Hà

Along the way I stopped off at a pristine beach (Biển Nhật Lệ) as well as the Vinh Moc Tunnels and 17th parallel (DMZ).

What a ride it was!

Spotted on the Ho Chi Minh Road near the Laos border

This intersection was a key point on the Ho Chi Minh trail

During the American War soldiers and supplies took the road west into Laos before heading south to the front

I drove from Cao Bằng to Việt Quang (277km) and then Việt Quang to Sa Pa (170km)

Both of these rides were simply stunning, taking me through some of the most remote mountains in northern Vietnam.

Day 5 of the Vietnam 🇻🇳 motorbike odyssey is in the books.

Today I drove my little black Honda from Ban Gioc Waterfalls to Cao Bằng, thus completing the Cao Bằng Loop.

Todays ride was epic! The views were some of the best I’ve seen anywhere in Vietnam.

God’s Eye Mountain is a must see!

Today I rode from Cao Bằng to Ban Gioc Waterfalls.

These majestic falls straddle the border of Vietnam and China.

The ~80km ride was scenic, though the road was heavily trafficked.

Went to get an oil change and a little tune up on the bike here in Cao Bằng 🇻🇳

The family running shop were incredibly kind and went out of their way to help me out

Then they invited me for tea!

Today I visited Pac Bo cave (Hang Cốc Bó).

This is where Ho Chi Minh and his comrades stayed when they returned to Vietnam in 1941.

The historical landmark is situated at the end of a beautiful verdant valley and is surrounded by limestone cliffs.

Today my Honda Dream carried me from Bắc Kạn to Cao Bằng.

This ride was quintessential Vietnam - windy roads crisscrossing jungle covered mountain passes with the occasional small town sprinkled in here and there.

The điếu cày (farmer’s pipe) is ubiquitous in northern Vietnam. Used to smoke thuốc lào (an especially strong strand of tobacco) the water pipes are for sale everywhere in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.
