Some view suffering as a sign that God loves them; others see wealth as "proof" they're divinely favored. Islam, however, rejects both extremes. Having more or less in this world doesn't reveal your standing with Allah.

Allah reminds us that true permanence isn't found in our shifting circumstances, whether success or setback, but in As-Salihat (good deeds).

Allah teaches us through the story of the companion and the enemy combatant that our judgments are limited to what is apparent while the unseen realities of the heart belong solely to Him.

Allah warns us that every emotion we carry has the potential to become a god by itself. This is a protound truth-anger, jealousy, greed, pride, entitlement, self-respect, desire-each of these feelings can grow so powerful that it begins to dictate our actions and decisions.
