Absolutely. I'm currently reading Misbelief by Duke University Professor Dan Ariely. He explains how rational people travel down what he calls the funnel of misbelief and become conspiracy theorists and the like. Not overly technical and a worthwhile read.

Thanks for giving the evidentiary standard. The average layman is unaware of the NYT vs. Sullivan rule. The shitheads lawsuit will die at a pretrial motion - demurrer, 12(6), MSJ, etc. Bottom line - would that qualify as "on the merits" under Iowa law for a malicious prosecution action? I hope so.
