To be clear I think he got paid appropriately for his career ERA combined with his durability. I’m skeptical of him having significant upside at this point, given the track record. I think this is just who he is.

Yeah I assume so. Pettitte was lucky to be drafted in 1990 by the Yankees, Buehrle was not. I'd just like these guys to admit it. Of course, that hardly explains the Hamels omission, he's got a WS MVP.

I'd like to see/hear voters articulate this specific line, because they are SO close. Most who vote for Pettitte but not Buehrle seem to decline to do so, as is the case with the ballot in the OP, Morejon doesn't even mention Buehrle in his column.

I just think Buehrle and Pettitte are so similar that it's hard to justify one and not the other, in either direction. So if I talk myself into one, it's really both. Then I look at Hamels and it's a guy who put up the same value in fewer games, was clearly better.

If someone's going to vote for just 1 of these 3, I have a hard time seeing why it should be Pettitte. The 1.2 WAR edge? I know the answer is really "Yankees" but that's so dull and unsatisfying.
