As you indicated, thanks to tyramide diffusion, CARD-FISH signals collectively show the total cell morphology (aka "whole cell hybridization) and confirm the peculiar morphology of the detected cells.

Thanks, Roland! In principle, you are right that tyramide diffuses in the cytoplasm, and signals might not directly originate from the ribosomes. However, this information is not relevant for the conclusions drawn in this study. We did not make any interpretation about rRNA location.
