I have a PhD in chemistry and I do productive work with my hands all day. I use a pallet jack like once a week. I haul around dewars of liquid nitrogen and gas cylinders. I was emailing someone about a gantry on Monday.
Educated people often miss the fact that many people want to do productive work with their hands. It is a real problem that we don't have many desirable jobs that use those manual skills.

While we’re on the subject of books, I sent my preordered book of the Ashfire King to my parents address instead of mine and now I have to wait THREE WEEKS

Have you ever known of an NMR quench to occur due to a sample arcing? Probe damage?
What’s the biggest problem you’ve seen from arcing?
I’ve only ever seen deposition on the rotor, the ugliest FID, and then the NMR manager went “lol we’re done.” This was from cooling metal oxides down to -30°C ⚡️

Gave a presentation to the dept last week as a part of their ‘requirement’ to graduate.
No professors showed up.
Further, no one from my committee showed to introduce me.
Only the grad students showed up as a part of a 1 credit class.
Guess I’ll see them in a month at my defense (maybe) 🤷
