Hakushaku Cain Series, while I can appreciate the art and paneling, man do episodic mystery horror dramas like this bore the shit out me. Neither of the two chapters I read were that interesting and it could have just been me, but this also just felt really hard to follow. First drop of the year.

Ever since I relinquished control of the group read over to
yube, I should have figured he'd allow hentai. Now I'm forced to treat it as manga and actually pay attention to what's happening. Luckily Engine Room is some wack shit, I'm glad this is my intro to "Oh Great!".

I've never been a rabid Matsumoto fan, yeah Ping Pong is goated, yeah Takemitsuzamurai has that one spread everyone shares, but his work like Tokyo Higoro don't vibe as well with me. I enjoyed the editor pov and a few scenes here and there, but I wanted to like it more

Pleasantly surprised with Zad's pick, Love Bullet has only got one volume out so far, but even standing alone it really hit hard. Glad to hear that fans come together save this gem from the mighty axe, and I'm looking forward to what inee's got in the kitchen.

Rolled Sean's fav, but it was in translation hell so he found Jingai no Yome to Ichaicha suru. Not a huge anthology guy, but there was a clean mix of wholesome and degenerate. Knowing him I expected it to be a bit more raunchy, but what was there was fun. (uncanny valley cat tho)

My sister's rec definitely stands out, but Yubisaki to Renren was around what I expected: a completely readable shoujo. No melodrama, the main couple was fun, the romance was corny, and the dude's sappy backstory was hilarious. Man saw a poor person and crumbled instantly

Detour #2, catching up to my other group read with Habatake! Taroumaru

Added this to MAL in 2019 when I was a mod, but dropped it. Finished it now and it was alright, dude loved goin on tirades against modern civilization, but the nature looked naturey and the hawks looked dope

Bakuon Rettou

As this was somewhat of a self-memoir, I gotta respect Tsutomu Takahashi portraying everyone as honestly as possible. Capturing blind youth through plenty of ugly moments for Takahashi and his friends, but throughout all of it I was wishing the best for them.

Little bit of a detour, my server started a Ken Akamatsu group read so we'll read all his stuff in order. First was Hitonatsu no Kids Game

It's his debut work so I wasn't expecting much, but it's pretty messy (both the characters and all the piss). The characters just felt so inhuman.

While I was reading Sanctuary, I decided to scrap my original list of manga and instead thought it'd be really cool to ask buddies for their favorite manga I haven't read. So here's my new chart and I'll put em in a tier list at the end of the year (first up is Bakuon Rettou)

Next was Sanctuary,

While I enjoy 2 dudes aura farming and cracking down on corruption and complacency, when they actually talked policies it felt shallow, preachy, or bizarre to me, putting a lot of blame on the youth. Also this had the most man-written women of all time.

Read L -> R

First up was To Love Ru, and I can’t say I was expecting much since I didn’t like black cat nor akayashi triangle, but I was disappointed anyways. Imagine if Urusei Yatsura was Nisekoi. That’s this manga. It was fine for what it was, but what it was, was ass. Dropped at Vol 3
