judging by some of the papers on realism that I’m seeing in enactive circles, it would probably do them a lot of good to read “Materialism and Empirio-Criticism” and replace the occasional word or phrase with something appropriately sensorimotor-ish.

I wonder how many philosophers and theorists have seriously examined their epistemological presuppositions in light of enactive cognition

One train of thought I have is to take intersubjectivity and participatory sense-making, and blow it up to a national scale. As in, asking “what is a nation” if enactive cognition is taken into consideration. You’ll find that the result is fairly close to the Leninist definition.

It’s very funny how many Marxists still insist Engels was wrong to see dialectics in science, meanwhile scientists have been using dialectics for decades and are only doing it more and more

My thing with anti-humanist Marxism is that it claims to be the “science” Marxism is supposed to be in opposition to humanism, and yet in light 21st century science on the topic of cognition, its claim to scientific accuracy is unsustainable. Enactive cognition ensures that.

Thought: The difference between western marxists and eastern marxists is that the former had representational views of cognition (the subject/structure dualism they insisted exists is inherently representationalist) whereas the latter had proto-4E views of cognition.

the ontological commitments of enactive cognition are mutually antagonistic with the core presuppositions of neoclassical economics, particularly homo economicus. When you try to immanently examine homo economicus via enactivism, you just produce Marx’s Labor Theory of Value via enacted labor
“Concrete and abstract labor” as used by Marx is virtually identical to “enacted cognition” as used by enactive cognitive theorists. They’re theorizing the same thing on different levels of abstraction. The main point to note is that not all enaction is “socially necessary” as such

We really need to disabuse ourselves in this society of the notion that "speech" is just "ideas" and therefore harmless. Language is the greatest persuasive tool that we have, and those with large platforms don't just hurt feelings but can also motivate violent action with their words.

I do, ultimately, feel empathy for those who wanted to feel hopeful about Syria. I personally, deep down, hoped against hope things would somehow turn out fine, even if I knew they wouldn’t

But I’m not gonna forget the slander against those who were pointing out the realities, including me

Videos coming from Syria of executions of minorities. People are excusing it by acting as though those being killed were pro-Assad

To say this is highly reminiscent of the rhetoric used to justify the deaths of Palestinians because they’re “Hamas” is an understatement

i’m trans. reporting this story nearly killed me. had to stop drinking and wound up on many friends “call to see if she’s ok” lists.

please share it. (i’m ok now that it is done.)
i spent a month investigating how republicans could cut off access to trans healthcare for most americans, and how democrats can likely stop them — but it’s unclear if they will.

Will Democrats Let the GOP Gut Trans Health Care?
Donald Trump and Republicans may try to ban funding to companies that perform trans health care. Some fear Democrats won't stop them.

liberals will literally call you a tankie for having a position you’ve already been vindicated on

Rule of thumb: Anyone who uses the term “tankie” unironically isn’t worth listening to about anything. The fact they call those pointing out that what may lie ahead for Syria may be worse than before “Assadists” just shows their analysis is stuck in a Marvel cinematic universe of “good vs bad guys.”

If you think of yourself as progressive or leftist but your political analysis is 90% talking about Trump, you aren't.

I feel no joy in being vindicated in the predictions I’ve made about Syria, nor amusement in the confusion of those who genuinely did not understand the full context. I mostly just feel frustrated and sad

Reading about marxist feminism and seeing, in historical sexist rhetoric in marxist circles (a problem that still exists) similar patterns to ableist and chauvinistic rhetoric in modern organizations 🤔
