Welcome! 🛁📚🦇🕯️

Finished reading @agcallard.bsky.social’s new INSIDE SOCRATES! (@wwnorton.com)

If you can’t attend Callard’s classes (or if you’re busy, y’know, fighting crime), I’d suggest that you give this your consideration. Better read than plenty of UGotham lectures. 🛁📚🦇🕯️

The Bathman Returns! 🛁📚🦇🕯️

I’ve finished reading @janjancl.bsky.social’s new book, IMMIGRATION + APOCALYPSE: HOW THE BOOK OF REVELATION SHAPED AMERICAN IMMIGRATION!

It’s every bit as bleak as its might suggest, and that’s why you should probably read it.

What’ve you been reading this week? 🦇

Finished reading @mtanderson.bsky.social’s new novel, NICKED!

Recommended novel and there’s a lot to like about it: the writing, its surprises & delights, and perfect for December’s cold long nights.

Finished reading @janicehallett.bsky.social’s new novella, THE CHRISTMAS APPEAL! (@atriabooks.bsky.social/ @viperbooks.bsky.social)

Hallett has had a tremendous 2024, with 3 strong books in about a year. I’ll be eager to read whatever she writes in 2025 and onward. 📚

Welcome, Gothamites! 🛁📚🦇🕯️

Finished reading Bartle Bull’s new history, LAND BETWEEN TWO RIVERS (@atlanticbooks.bsky.social)

Yes, of course, it’s a story as epic as any of them. But one of its positive surprises is that it does not feel hefty, and proved a comfy bath read.

Welcome, Gothamites! 🛁📚🦇🕯️

Finished reading Philippa Langley’s new book, THE HISTORY IN THE TOWER!

This is a story that’s been keeping me up for decades now, since reruns of IN SEARCH OF… gave me nightmares.

What books have been keeping you awake lately?

Welcome, Gothamites! 🛁📚🦇🕯️

Finished reading @danielkraus.bsky.social‘s new WHALEFALL!

I adore sperm whales. In spite of MOBY-DICK, I’ve long regarded them as the gentle giants of the sea. This one is a giant, but not gentle. 😯

Fun & fast read!

This week I finished reading Jamila Ahmed’s new debut ‘EVERY RISING SUN’!

If you have any love of ‘The 1,001 Nights’, narratives, this mustn’t be missed.
