Lovely bunch of amateur astronomers in and around the historic city of Bath, Somerset, UK. Rescuing telescopes from dusty cupboards, sharing how-tos, and inspiring minds with outreach are our things.
Delighted Dr Victoria Scowcroft will be Mapping the Universe for visitors to @brlsi.bsky.social on evening of Wednesday 26th Nov.

Following in the footsteps of Henrietta Swan Leavitt, the galactic tape measure is ever more precise.

Nice to have a public stargazing session last night at Lansdown Playing Fields South after a spell of weather cancellations.

The building clouds hampered having a good gander but there were satellites aplenty, a meteor or two, Saturn, Neptune, globular and open clusters, and a galaxy before pack up

The problem with astronomy outreach is that you must be well behaved all the time... not tonight!!

A shout out to members of Bath Astronomers who used the one clear evening this week to all simultaneously go out and take a snap of Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon).

Our little astro society is up there in lights as Society in Focus in November's BBC Sky at Night Magazine.

Gives me a warm feeling. How great it is to be in a local astronomical society!!

Tonight, we're having fun in Sutton Veny with Starquest Astronomers.

It's all about Multi Messenger Astronomy, Vera Rubin, and the Simonyi Telescope.

Hoping that the three miniature Lego figures of Jupiter, Juno and Galileo Galilei are still safe aboard a still functioning Juno spacecraft and the lights are "still on".

Bath Space Quiz is another storming success and this time Bath Astronomers rode off under the light of the Supermoon with the Trophy.

Great second place by @herschelmuseum.bsky.social.

The Question Setter got a lot of flak as the winning score was only 50% of the max possible score. Full Nerd.

Happy Lunar Perigee Syzygy Day.

Hold on to your hats as the Moon sweeps past a few thousand kilometres closer. Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Thank you Richard Nolle for creating supermoons in 1979 to describe both closer New Moons and Full Moons.

Our Discover Astronomy Loan Box is available for local schools to borrow. A great resource especially for Yr5 when doing Space.

The flightcase is packed full of equipment with online lessons that are "pick up and use" for busy Primary School teachers.

Now that was an enjoyable evening. Chatting to perhaps a hundred or so passers-by about the night sky as they went about their business in Bath (ok... drinking and eating lots).

So many smiles. Outreach is amazing. Dust off your telescope and responsibly say "hello" to complete strangers.

A wonderful and thought provoking talk by @robertmassey.bsky.social this evening to @bathastronomers.org.uk and visitors from the public.

So kind of Dr Robert Massey to travel to us from London. It is the kind hearts of people like Robert that keep astronomical societies fun and vibrant communites.
