I also think of Paradise Kiss and how a LOT of people were touched by that and the fashion in it. They won't necessarily have the politics associated with the aesthetics. I know it's frustrating to people within the subcultures, but the commercialization of goth and punk was in full swing before

Twitter, IG, and tiktok has allowed for more exchange in style between subcultures in this way, too. I just think this needs to be considered when discussing social media fashion trends and e-girls. They're not necessarily emulating punk or goth aesthetics.

Also cosplayers using tiktok before it became tiktok. Like Dangit Grandpa was one of the most cosplayed things on there. Junko was popular to style fashion after. Like it's actually infuriating people try to discuss tiktok aesthetics without this understanding especially when Aaliyah became one of
