Brighton Active Travel 🚶‍♀️🧑‍🦽🚲
@batbrighton.bsky.social
We need a network of safe and direct walking, wheeling and cycling routes to make Brighton, Hove & Portslade a great city that works for everyone. That's our goal - join us on the journey.
It’s crazy that children walking and cycling to school need protecting from adult drivers but it’s the sad reality so it’s good that our Council plans proper enforcement of School Streets.

Huge congratulations to @brighton-hove.gov.uk for helping to make the city the most walkable city in the country!
Now you can make it the best in the whole wide world by completing the long-delayed seafront #activetravel scheme.

Come down to Brighton & Hove in three days to see how many people are having fun while asking our council to make the city safer for active travel.

Help needed.
Make the South Downs better for active travel.
Complete the national park’s consultation. Tell them everything that will make it better for 🚶‍♀️🦽 & 🚴🏽‍♀️ .
For example, easier ways to get to the Downs without using a car.

Happy 5th Birthday to Madeira Drive - the seafront road was made open only to people travelling actively exactly 5 years ago today. Motor vehicles were excluded and now it’s a wonderful place to enjoy.

Cycling trips and miles have been similar to the previous year, lower than pre-pandemic. Maybe firmer cyclists are walking instead?

Yep, because "some in London" are thought to be "dangerous" ones like this floating bus stop would never be built. It's in Moulsecoomb, whose Baroness said those words supporting the terrible amendment. The FBS has helped make it significantly less dangerous for people who'd like to cycle.

Oooh. Marine Parade will be closed to vehicles for the very busy Pride weekend. If that can happen, it must be feasible to install a protected cycle lane there 24/7.

Yesterday in Parliament: Cool question from @andymacnaemp.bsky.social about the economic impact of active travel gets a positive response from @simonlightwood.org.uk about forthcoming research by Active Travel England into employment effects.

Yesterday in Parliament: Excellent question by @ruthcadbury.bsky.social about side road zebra crossings but it’s strangely, disappointingly and comprehensively ignored by @simonlightwood.org.uk Why?

Yesterday in Parliament: @paulkohlersw19.bsky.social gets some facts about some active travel infrastructure but nothing useful about cycle lanes from @marycreagh.bsky.social or about possible expansion. DfT to blame?

So the levy on new building developments in the city could soon be used to pay for protected cycle lanes, cycle hangars, safer crossings, modal filters and traffic reduction etc

When our local paper publishes this news online from our City the Council, the Comments section will implode. 😁

Don’t know why we weren’t aware before but, while looking at the new @bikeabilityuk.bsky.social cycle training offered by our city to school children, just seen that “pedestrian training” for children is also offered. Is this common?

An extraordinary number of people have objected to badly planned parking bays that would make a seafront road more dangerous for people walking, wheeling & riding bicycles. Our safety-minded Council must now be rethinking the idea.

Yesterday in Parliament: Good to see DfT minister @simonlightwood.org.uk tell @markjsewards.bsky.social how e-bikes are different from e-mopeds and don’t need stronger regulation.
