Crafty citizen of the world.
November is hard. In September and October, we still get visits from Summer. But in November, the slog toward winter cannot be denied. Trees give up their last bursts of sunshine as their leaves flare up, & inevitably drop. They say leave the leaves, & I do, knowing there is no life w/o death.

Oooh. I actually HAVE been looking for such a block! Thank you for some fabric I picked up at an estate sale. Perfect!

And here’s a stack of HST off-cuts from a Picket quilt I’ve almost finished. It’s a Robin Pickens pattern using the Kaffe x Morris Free Spirit line & Bella solids. The Daylesford calls for 9-patches w 1.5 strips but I’ll use these HSTs instead for that panel.

Here’s the diamond quilt that many of my current cohort of scraps hail from.

I like how these scrappy projects create a snapshot of my creative/ design aesthetic in a certain point in time. Here’s part of a Tula Pink scrap medallion from earlier this year.

Scrap management… I’ve starting making “companion quilts” to use up scraps from current/recent projects. I often like them better than the original! I started a Daylesford medallion-inspired quilt yesterday. It’s based on a Jen Kingwell “Quilt Recipe”, but I’m taking many liberties. #QuiltSky

Amazing. Look at this beautiful family, this beautiful crowd. Love wins.

Little frog in training gives me hop.

I mean hope.

We don’t need a king but this guy was an absolute prince!

Drivers seemed to flock from all over to show their support for the rally, with signs and noise. Millions of us will be able to tell our grandchildren we stood up to tyranny and terror on #NoKings Day and EVERY DAY.

More from the Beaverton, OR #NoKings

The bubble blower was so sweet and made the vibe so fun. Many a dog chomped those bubbles just like we’ll chomp tyranny.

At one point, I commented to my friend that this is what every peace rally I’ve ever been to has been like: lots of older people and families, but the media never shows them.

But, truly, the joy and feeling of “Life is Beautiful” was so much greater than ever before.

Loved this sign— an image of MLK, Jr—saying “The Only King this Country has Ever Needed”

The creativity and acerbic wit, the LOVE, the costumes, dogs, and kids—this is what makes America great. And I bet every where else in the world, too.

The #NoKings rally in Beaverton, OR felt the way a parade *should* feel but never does. I hope Oct. 18 becomes No Kings Day and kicks off the Halloween costume season in style and solidarity.

Thank you to this drummer who kept me dancing for two hours while I waved at cars. So many honking and smiling. People lift each other up.

I had to check IG to see if there were any photos of the Cherrywood Abyss Challenge at the Houston Quilt Festival and look what I saw! Somebody took a photo of their faves and MINE was the cover photo. This is the very first time I’ve had a quilt in a show. I’m tickled.

So much joy. Such a beautiful cross-section of humanity at the Portland Marathon this morning.

#Portland. Thursday. It’s time for a drink and book club discussion. And yeah, we all read the book. This time it’s James by Percival Everett.

This is Portland right now. You can hear the fighter jets in the video, but they passed into the cloud cover before I could capture them. They have a base here and it’s not new to see/hear them, but they are flying over every day, sometimes multiple times, and sometimes at night. It’s jarring.
