I don't have any of them eating the torkey in question, but this is what they looked like yesterday before I started turning furniture over to look for their toys, and the later, Leia, minutes before we were ready to serve dinner, sitting patiently in the chair at the head of the table.
A brown striped tabby cat named Leia and her littermate Luke, a large orange tabby, lay on top of a folded blanket on top of a green loveseat where they had just been napping. They had no idea then that that loveseat would be turned on its back within the hour in my search for all the springs and other toys they lost. Leia sits on the chair at the head of the table, which is covered in a fancy white tablecloth and with the good china and cloth napkins at each setting. She has heard that dinner will be served in a few minutes, and is waiting patiently and with great curiosity for us to bring the food.

I roasted my first turkey since Christmas 2018, and I think it came out really well, despite being out of practicr cooking at all and definitely out of practice cooking a large meal for a group.
Roast turkey made by dry brining the night before with coarse sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. The cavity was stuffed with the Simon & Garfunkel herbs (parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme), as well as two heads' worth of garlic cloves, lemon wedges, and butter. I rubbed butter under the skin and placed pats over the top of the breast and on the legs and wings, and minced some of the herbs I held in reserve to sprinkle across the top. My mom, my older brother, his new wife, and her two kids, sitting at the table. In addition to turkey, we had buttermilk mashed potatoes and gravy, mashed sweet potatoes, corn, broccoli, cornbread dressing, and homemade rolls with the grape jelly I made in September. We had sparkling grape juice to drink.

I don't have the knees for trotting, but my chore for the day (before it's time to roast the turkey) did require exertion via moving furniture to find all the cat toys.

I didn't post about it, but I saw the Cleveland Orchestra again today. They played Dvorák's Ninth Symphony, and I used some of my rewards points with the orchestra to get a box seat to watch from for the first time.

My bunny slippers on my feet this morning, ready to do serious work as I clock in for four hours of OT. Bunny slippers are the perfect thing to wear while doing serious work because theae bunnies are so serious and so focused that I have never seen them blink even once. They are locked in on what's in front of them. It's inspiring, actually. The slippers are gray and slip in, not flip flop style. The inside of the bunnies' ears are white; they have little pink noses, and the bunny on the right has one ear that is a little more lopsided than the other. The bottoms of my sherpa-lined sweatpants are also visible, as is my dirty tan wall to wall office carpeting.

Chaucer may have given us most of the words in common use in the English language, but maybe he also inspired the 50 year mortgage idea, while demonstrating why it was bad and dumb?
Part of a brief recounting of Chaucer's life from the financial records extant from that time, which show that less than a year before he died, Chaucer entered into a 53 year lease of a house in the garden of Westminster Abbey, and he was later buried in the Abbey.

A new approach to waking up too early and being unable to go back to sleep: Instead of scrolling my phone endlessly, I'm going to open my copy of the 1957 second edition of the complete works of Chaucer and start reading.

Maybe I'll fall asleep. Maybe I'll be awake for new reasons. Time will tell.
