Quite obsessed with this illustrated German broadside depicting the execution of James, Duke of Monmouth in 1685.

Clearly modelled on some earlier depictions of Charles It's execution as they've erroneously situated this in front of the Banqueting House when Monmouth was executed on Tower Hill!

An absolute delight to see this for the first time in Ghent MSK.

Maybe I'm late to the party, but why does this never feature in any book history/print culture work!

Tough writing day trying to cram the Treaty of Utrecht into a single chapter, but very happy to have passed over the 40,000 word threshold!

It was great to be in Padua yesterday presenting my work on Anglo-Dutch news management after the Battle of Beachy Head (1690). A huge thank you to the organisers for giving me the chance to speak in such a wonderful setting!

The Rijksmuseum's online catalogue is such a fantastic resource. Here is just some of the material used to celebrate the Anglo-Dutch naval victory at La Hogue in 1682.

I've started a collection of images and material relating to the Nine Years War here: www.rijksmuseum.nl//en/rijksstu...
