PRESS RELEASE 31/10/25 TRANS ACTIONISTS TARGET EQUALITY COMMISSION Trans direct action group "BASH BACK" accuses EHRC of being a "hate group", and tells landlords FORA to "DROP THE EHRC" Early this morning - October 31st - actionists representing trans direct action group BASH BACK took action against the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), a public body directly responsible for persecuting the transgender community in the UK. Actionists from BASH BACK- which took action against Health Secretary Wes Streeting in August, and the FiLiA conference early this month - smashed windows and sprayed pink paint on the EHRC headquarters in protest at the EHRC's repeated attacks on trans people. A spokesperson for BASH BACK said: "Under the leadership of 'Baroness' Falkner, the EHRC has transformed itself into a hate group that wants to shred our rights and liberties. We will not accept that. Despite intense legal and political pressure they still intend to push their guidance - segregating trans people out of all single-sex spaces - to government, in a cynical attempt to erase us from public life. PRESS RELEASE 31110125 (CONT.) "In 2022, the EHRC endorsed conversion therapy and opposed reform to the Gender Recognition Act, and 'Baroness' Falkner's overt transphobia created a hostile 'anti-LGBT' environment which caused many staff to leave, and yet others called 'the enemy of human rights' (1). In 2024, they welcomed the Cass Review and a ban on puberty blockers. Now they are pushing guidance, based on the For Women Scotland ruling, that would drive trans people out of society altogether. We demand that businesses, universities and sports organisations dump the EHRC's hateful guidance." The EHRC's guidance on single-sex spaces has been criticised by international human rights groups, who have called for it to be withdrawn (2). The body's interim guidance, expected to be approved by the would bar all transgender people from any space designated as "single-sex", effectively banning trans people from existing in public. The BASH BACK spokesperson added: "The EHRC has described human rights as basic rights and freedoms that belong to every human in the world. But they demand certain rights be denied from trans people -denied from us specifically. Are we not human? "This is just the beginning - we can only secure our freedoms through constant resistance. We will not stop until we are free". THE EHRC IS A HATE GROUP. THIS MONTH, THE GOOD LAW PROJECT FORCED THE EHRC TO DUMP THEIR TRANSPHOBIC "INTERIM GUIDANCE". LAST WEEK, 6 HUMAN-RIGHTS GROUPS DEMANDED THE EHRC HAVE THEIR A-STATUS REMOVED DUE TO AN "OBSESSIVE CAMPAIGN TO STRIP TRANS PEOPLE OF OUR RIGHTS". DESPITE THIS - AND DESPITE INTERNATIONAL OUTRAGE - THEY STILL INTEND TO PUSH THEIR GUIDANCE (SEGREGATING TRANS PEOPLE OUT OF ALL SINGLE-SEX SPACES) TO GOVERNMENT. Our full statement on our action against Sodexo Leeds
STATEMENT ON BASH BACK ACTION AGAINST SODEXO (29/08/25) On the week of the 28th of July, a trans man, Toni Asik was murdered in the Sodexo-run HMP Bronzefield. He had endured weeks of abuse because of his gender identity, constant misgendering and harassment by Sodexo staff. In the same week, an 18 year old trans man, also incarcerated in Bronzefield, attempted suicide by throwing himself off of a high railing. Sodexo and prison staff responded with aggressive 5 day lockdowns, further restrictions on prisoners' rights, and further violence against the prisoners themselves. Every death in prison is a murder. Every incarcerated trans person is a victim of the same harassment that killed Toni Asik and Taylor Atkinson, a prisoner held for 14 years under the UK's draconian IPP laws. Through the violence inherent in discrimination, misgendering, abuse, denial of HRT, and segregation from other prisoners of the same gender, the prison system is designed todehumanize, erase and kill trans prisoners. By taking action against Sodexo this week we stand in solidarity with Prisoners for Palestine, CAGE, No More Exclusions and the Anticarceral Solidarity network, in condemning the hideous abuse the prison system wreaks on its victims, and standing with all prisoners - our trans siblings, and our fellow activists, the Filton 24 (especially T. Hoxha who remains on hunger strike in HMP Peterborough as we write this) - in holding these murderers to account. OUR DEMANDS We DEMAND that trans prisoners be transferred to prisons of their gender. We DEMAND investigations. into the abuses that led to these deaths. We DEMAND the immediate release of all political prisoners held without trial or under IPP legislation. Until then, we will continue to hold the bigots at Sodexo and HMP to account. SMASH SODEXO. SMASH THE STATE. LIBERATION FOR ALL PRISONERS NOW. STAND UP, BASH BACK

Our statement on the actions at Wes Streeting's office last night.

We refuse to sit and watch as trans young people have their healthcare stripped from them. We refuse to allow Streeting to cover up their suicides. We refuse to endure the violence and humiliation. They will have to go through us.

JUSTICE FOR TRANS YOUTH On July 31st, a group of activists representing BASH BACK took action against Wes Streeting's office in Ilford, in response to his continued abuse of trans people in the medical system, and attempts to cover up the suicides of trans young people under his watch as Health Secretary. In the months since the puberty blockers ban, we have seen huge backpedals in the healthcare rights afforded to trans people - and young people especially - in an NHS system that was never kind to us in the first place. Under Streeting's rule, GPs have been banned from conducting blood tests on trans patients accessing HRT, and trans people have been banned from accessing hospital wards that fit their gender, leading necessarily to poorer quality of care across the board. Streeting, along with NHS England, the EHRC, and Hillary Cass, have paved the way for state-mandated conversion therapy, which has since led to the Department of Education's proposed introduction of a "Section 28" style bill, preventing discussion of transness in the classroom. It is clear now that Wes Streeting and the Labour government intend to erase trans people from public life, and will go out of their way to do so, no matter how many bodies lay in their path.
