Also, what did they get him to promise? As far as I can tell they aren't actually leaving.

No offense to him, no problem with them trying him out after they'd given up, but it makes sense. The ceiling was Tommy Kahnle without the element of surprise Kahnle had for a while, and once people know you only throw one (slow) pitch it's gonna get destroyed.

Rebuilding trust isn't that hard, all they have to do is invest in the team.

Nice to see them add something and depth is good so I like the move, but a little disappointing if you're right because of the three of them Prielipp seems to have by far the most upside. I'd love to see them carry 3 lefties if it gets him up ASAP.

“I think he must be doing something right when there are so many people opposed to him” is really where we're at, huh? We've moved on from 'Good compromise means everyone is mad' to 'People being mad means things are good'.

What I don't get is the plan. I generally think Falvey is a smart guy, and I get they've got no money, but the team just lost 92 games playing poor defense, the 40 man was full of AAAA players, and his off-season has been... a decent DH, an okay old catcher, and more AAAA players?

Adding another guy to the spring training competition for the backup shortstop role is fine, I guess. But these cumulative moves do not inspire confidence.

Good for him. Twins were probably right about him but it feels like what he needs is 300 regular ish ABs with a rebuilding team to see what's what. It was an opportunity he wasn't going to get here. Hope it works out for him.

Truly a great place to live. I love this city.
January 17, 2026 at 10:47 PM
Absolutely, and that would be a ton of fun and if the money was spent well it would probably make them a consistent playoff team. But they'd still be way behind the Dodgers who are essentially impossible for a team like the Twins to catch.
January 16, 2026 at 8:17 PM
Yeah I'm no Pohlad defender but when Dodgers fans say "well your team should just spend more" I don't see how they think we are supposed to catch up even if we had better owners. We could (and I think should) spend 180-200 and the gap would still be insurmountable, at least in the regular season.

Are there walkers or just joggers? I'd hate to be in the way but would love somewhere better to walk.

I remember how proud my (then) 92 year old Grandma was to vote for Obama in '08. I don't think she even particularly liked him, she just hated racism and wanted a better world. Don't mess with the elders. They've seen stuff, aren't scared, and have the time in their days to be there.

In no way intending to imply their targeting of other communities is okay but WTF?! Even in this era I didn't have "straight up targeting community of Famous War Heroes" on my Bingo card.
January 14, 2026 at 8:59 PM
I like him a bit. Not an elite defender but with any luck he can push Kreidler off the opening day depth chart. But yeah, as the second or third biggest offseason move after a 92 loss season this is bad. For the life of me I can't figure out their opposition to trading for a couple cheap 2 WAR bats.

Great episode! I know he was joking but if you could talk him into it Phil would be a great semi regular 3rd host.
January 9, 2026 at 5:38 PM
It's a shame these teams aren't owned by people rich enough to ignore short-term forecasts and spend anyway because they want to win. Unfair of us poor people to expect owners with functionally infinite money to lose an amount they wouldn't miss in the name of something bigger though.

2025 Martin splits worth noting:

Grounders: .226 avg/.468 OPS
Fly balls: .200 avg/.600 OPS
Line drives: .742 avg/1.677 OPS

Avg exit velo, bat speed, barrel rate, hard hit % were all well below avg.

Line drives are great, but those results are unsustainably lucky and he was still just okay.
January 8, 2026 at 4:03 PM
It would open up a bench slot and improve corner defense, but I worry we're getting ahead of ourselves on Martin. He's got no bat speed + low barrel rate and a high BABIP drove his good results. I'm rooting for him but as a starting left fielder I worry. .742 BABIP on line drives isn't sustainable.
