Being a real community is incompatible with this "actually you don't owe anyone anything" mindset that is so trendy these days. Sure, you don't have to play with anyone you don't want! You have that choice! But that choice directly contributes to stagnation in the scene.

I’ve seen a lot of teams treat tournaments like they’re a sort of “final exam” and that ends up discouraging them when they don’t do very well.

I tend to think of tournaments more as a midterm almost? Yes study and prepare for it, but use it as a way to gauge your progress +
