Good and entirely accurate report of what we all saw, from someone who paid a fortune for the privilege

Yup. Villa basically gambled on spending more than they can afford. The result is what we've seen today.

This is the difference actually buying players makes. Villa knew they needed fresh impetus in January and got some new faces, using loans well. We've been hauling the same squad around for a year and a half.

There are. I'm not worried about it. If we qualify, it'll be great and we'll get some big games and plenty of 💰 I'm just greedy I think. I'd much rather we're in a competition we can realistically win 👍

We got Tonali bc Milan needed 💰 and (imo) they knew he was about to get a gambling ban. We didn't qualify for CL last year & none of our 'key players' left. I think 'we need champions League to prevent a firesale' is media driven myth tbh. We won a 🏆 & are in Europe. Why would anyone want to leave?

The new format would definitely help. Villa have had a much better draw than we did, so a similar one should see us do pretty well. But they've a much bigger squad than us (their wage/turnover ratio is disastrously high) and they weren't competitive at all y'day. I'd prefer us in a comp we can win.

The pen at PSG was a disgrace but our MOTM was Pope. We basically defended for 90 mins. It was heroic, backs to the wall stuff. In the end, when the points were tallied, we got a horror-hard group and were the fodder.

That's what you get in the CL, eventually, unless you are elite. We aren't, yet.

We won 1 game, held on for dear life for 2 draws & were swatted aside x2 by a side who got humped tonight. We were fodder. We're kidding ourselves if we think we're near that level tonight. I'd rather be in a comp we can win, but if you'd rather take the cash (the club would too) then fair enough 👍

That's my view as well. We'd go off as odds on favourites to win that Conference thing before a ball is kicked and no worse than third or fourth favourites for the UEFA cup. In this, we're fodder. Money aside, what's the point of being fodder?

30m wouldn't put a dent in the gap between us and PSG. I get the finance and prestige arguments, but I'm not really seeing why we should run before we can walk. We did that before and got nowhere in real terms, if we're brutally honest.

That was a battering, really. A proper eye-opener for our #ucl prospects - we're desperately trying to qualify for a comp we're pretty much outclassed in, currently 🤔

Unfortunately, The Chronicle long ago stopped trying to be a serious news outlet. It's nothing but a one-stop spam shop now. Best to ignore it.
