Well from what I can see it’s described as a secret local ballot so seems unfair to trivialise it. Withdrawing from a race is hardly campaigning against the greens. They also campaigned FOR the greens in other constituencies.

Banning party members for 5 years because they followed local democratic advice is a ridiculous overreaction. If any party was to promote local decision-making and tolerance one would expect it to be the Greens. Pulling out with so little time is of course problematic but “sabotage” is a bit rich.

Yep—SC will pose a problem. I also worry though that in 2026, one of the house or senate would then turn red again—often is the way with mid-terms that voters mobilise to limit the President. An endless cycle of deadlock.

If they do come close to it, how does society push through that change? In the UK there came a clear consensus for change after 14 years of conservative rule. But the US equivalent would be what? Mobilising voters to elect a dem president, house and senate is a difficult multi-year project.

I agree—overturning it was such a draconian decision it will definitely mobilise a lot of support. But the right will continue to attack abortion and pro-life support will unfortunately persist.

Very true, but either way—I don’t think Harris is radical enough to push through significant electoral reform; I can’t think of any US politicians who would other than maybe AOC and Bernie!

She’s certainly lit a spark of hope for the election. But if she does win I still can’t see her doing anything particularly exciting. The Supreme Court and the House are against her. After 2026 mid terms it’s unlikley the Dems will have the senate and the house. Very little room for change :(
July 27, 2024 at 10:08 AM
Which I just unfortunately can’t see happening. It seems unlikely that anyone willing to enact such change would be elected in the US. Maybe one day🙏

He can’t handle the fact that he is now going up against someone who will show him to be incoherent and unfit for office!
July 27, 2024 at 9:56 AM
Forcing in a new candidate in the constituency went directly against a democratic decision made by local party members. Folllwed by the banning of these members. One would expect better from the Greens.

Spend more, the deficit isn’t what the media and the right make it out to be!
July 26, 2024 at 1:43 PM
It’s this notion that the Tories and the right wing media will criticise Labour’s spending, saying it will lead to tax rises. But if they spend more without taxing those less well-off, all while improving things—then that’s what people will focus on: the improvements!
July 26, 2024 at 1:41 PM
The NIMBY whiners across the UK and in Parliament are holding us back from making crucial progression in sustainability and tackling climate change. It’s time to get on with it—which is ironically what many of them would say in response to other people’s problems.

An important step in the right direction.

The Dems approach to endorsing Harris has been a breath of fresh air. If they can continue to keep her headlining ahead of Trump then more and more polls could begin to edge her way in the coming months.
July 26, 2024 at 1:26 PM
Labour’s communication has certainly improved and enhances their idea of a government of service but it still runs thin on certain issues such as Gaza & the two-child benefit cap. Regardless of the work they are doing on these, their comms have been fairly subdued and reluctant.

Ticket prices are already unaffordable for large numbers of fans IN the UK. So games abroad are an insulting idea to these fans. Not to mention that the ticket prices for these international games are likely to be unaffordable for many fans in other nations (most likely the US).
