If only more Texas legislators had been willing to listen to the librarians and booksellers. But who needs expertise when you've got unearned, misplaced confidence?

I remember the night I testified against HB 900 before a Texas Senate committee. One member arrogantly told his colleagues that there was certainly no constitutional issue with the legislation they were considering. youtu.be/sylo5-GTdpk

In his ruling, Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Alan Albright wrote, "This Court previously enjoined READER in 2023. Facing the same issues, this Court finds the same result: READER misses the mark on accomplishing its goal and is unconstitutional. "

And just think — everyone who attended their first one today now knows that it’s *not* a “hate America” rally. They might even wonder why they were lied to about that…

If you made it to a No Kings event today, how was it?
If you didn’t attend No Kings today, and you missed the one in June as well, I bet you’d be surprised by how good it feels to be part of something like this. Come to the next one!

And how about this one:
"Darn it, I gave away all of my Spanish books and of course now I’m trying to learn it again. How can a person ever get rid of a book, I ask you, and yet I must because I need room on my shelves."
Did Deborah Heiligman say that, or did I?

And who said this one?
"That ties into one of my all-time favorite music nonfiction books, a John Lennon biography by Ray Coleman—just titled Lennon—that I read over and over when I was in high school, just as I’d done with the Great Brain books several grades earlier."
Me, or Victor Piñeiro?

And while it is profoundly embarrassing that so much of this documentary takes place here in Texas, it was nonetheless a joy to see so many of my freedom- (and Freadom-) loving friends up on the screen. I appreciate and admire them so much.
I bet you will, too.

But if you are even slightly put off by that notion (and especially if you like eye-opening, emotional, gripping filmmaking), I urge you to see The Librarians as soon as you possibly can, with as many friends and family members as you can get into those theater seats.
