The "if" in Pinker's quote is telling, since grant dollars DO go to research that is judged to be of the highest quality.

The minister tweeted a link to this PDF of book extracts. Looking at the pieces from Fun Home, for example, is a great reminder of amazing and funny (and not pornographic) that work is. All four works are great - there's a reason they are so frequently taught. www.alberta.ca/system/files...

U Calgary has a laptop/phone loaner program for faculty who travel to the US for just this reason. It should be the policy everywhere in Canada. www.ucalgary.ca/risk/risk-ma...

Looking at Canadian schools: Calgary was highest in 2024 w $3.7m but only had about $120k in indirect costs. University Health Network had just over $4m but less than $200k. It's definitely all over the map

If you look at the NIH report on JHU and click through the actual awards you'll see that a lot of them have no indirect costs attached, or indirects that are far lower than 55% (or even 15%), so the number here is probably high. You'd have to click through 1500 grants to tabulate the number though
