#langsky Chuffed to get my tickets to Korea to attend KOTESOL conference in May. Boosts my motivation to keep studying Korean.

I guide a French table at my university, Even though I'm an English teacher and learning French myself, my French is way beyond our students' level.

Hey Santpolyglot, I have a question for you. I’m reading Katò Lomb, the Hungarian polyglot’s Harmony of Babel, and she writes that a certain polyglot is a native speaker of “Slavic”. Is that a language? I thought Slavic referred to family of langs, like Russian, Serbian, Polish, etc. I’m confused.

Yes, I use it to check my daily entry in my diary. I write what I want to say out in the TL, then I ask ChatGPT to check it for vocabulary, grammar and fluency:

早安!請幫我修改我寫的中文日記(詞彙,語法,流暢性)好嗎?

Then I handwrite the final version in my journal.

Okay, I’ll start. Here are my analog resources for Italian. I especially recommend the grammar, colloquial expressions book, and the graded readers by Easy Reader.

Every Sat. I take an online course with 中山大學(高雄)My classmates are either living in China, Taiwan or have lived there, so I'm the lowest in spoken proficiency. My teacher suggested dictation practice with the text. Hard but useful practice. I heard 口音, not English Call In (last line, pic 2)

Began Latin in April w/ TY Beginner's Latin (it sat on my shelf for YEARS); I must say learning Latin is a revelation. I can better appreciate the deep roots of English and other European languages. I learned that the name Amanda, for ex. is the gerundive form for 'she who must be loved.'

Journaling is an activity I do to produce language. I keep a record of my activities and thoughts and to spice things up, I’ve been using prompts from this website: 35 interesting for. lang. writing prompts.

Learning TLs through other TLs. I’m learning Korean with an Italian interface on Busuu and also use HSK5 materials made for Japanese learners. I find it reinforces the source language and gives a fresh perspective on the TL. How about you?

Let's see:
1. Chinese - love etymology of sinographs
2. Japanese - different way of looking at the world
3. Korean - mangy cognates with JPN CHN, beautiful script
4. Italian - la musica della parola
5. Latin - cannot "enjoy" it yet but grammar is fascinating

Re-evaluation of 2023 TL goals: had planned to begin Russian in Q3 but will continue with Latin and Italian for the remainder of yr. I feel like I need to have a more solid footing before moving on. Less is more!

Sundry study materials: TY Beginner's Latin collected dust on my shelf for YEARS. Now I'm on Unit 8... and ploughing thru it. Chinese: I keep a diary in Chinese and am working through readings for HSK5. Italian Graded Reader: if you're unfamiliar with Easy Readers (Denmark), I highly recommend them.

June Language Learning Reflection - this month has been busy but I've still managed to maintain nearly three hours per day. Chinese, because of the two online courses I'm taking, is twice as much as Korean and Italian combined. I'm really enjoying Latin, if not the textbook.
