Was this some early 70's attempt at modern parenting? Because to me, 55 years later, it still just seems like crap parenting. And I'm not sure I've ever forgiven them for putting their only child in that position. I've never had children of my own, but I trust I wouldn't make a child be Solomon.

The reconciliation was short-lived. By the end of the year, they were divorced. What followed was the one truly happy period of my childhood. Also short-lived. Mom re-met an old high school flame and married him. My abusive, ignorant, deceitful stepfather for the next decade.

Dad cried. I was confused. Mom said sometimes adults cry when they are happy. Seeing my big, rural Midwest, alpha male father crying was a new sensation for me.

Impossible to pick a favorite, but I still find Begin the Begin to be a complete banger. One of the select songs that I cannot fail to crank up the volume on and sing along.
