Google's own estimate on the page says that they think ~14% of devices that pass today will be affected by this- so if that's you, you may want to consider upgrading before May

Now, it has always been app devs' choice to use integrity checks at all, and there are granular checks that can be done, per this doc- however, I find some devs just say "Security? We want that!" And crank it the whole way up with no consideration for why they're doing it (looking at you, MyQ)

As far as I'm aware, this is the first time they've done something like this- flagged a device as modified for something outside of the user's control

I certainly won't stand here and say promoting security updates is a bad thing, but I'm not so sure this is the way to do it

Google has a feature called Play Integrity, which is intended to let developers know if you have a modified OS on your phone, but in May, they will start flagging devices that have not received a software update in the past year as not qualifying for the "strong integrity" flag
