LAST CHANCE - to see at the wonderful Hales gallery in London, their first WBG exhibition - Mirage -amongst the range of works dating from 1952-94 is the subtle radiance of 'Umber & Black on Red', painted by WBG in gouache on paper in 1961. September is upon us, this month instead of a September picture, a September photo, from 60 years ago this month. Here WBG is shown with one her mid-60s masterpieces, the remarkable Progression, 1965. Progression was gifted the collection of the wonderful Leeds Art Gallery, by the WBG Trust in 2019.

It is of course August everywhere, but this work by Barns-Graham is 'August in Orkney', painted in 1987, two years after her second of two visits the island in 1985. The painting was donated by the WBGT to the wonderful Piers Arts Centre in Stromness in 2022.

We're just going to manage to squeeze in a 'July' picture before August is upon us, with this bravura exnaple of Barns-Graham's late style. Painted 25 years ago in acrylic on paper, this is 'July, 2020'. Enjoy the rest of the month!

The Trust's gifting programme of WBG works has resulted in high quality examples of her work being regularly displayed in museums and galleries across the UK. On display at the Pier Arts Centre is one the two most recent of these gifts they have received, Birsay II, 1986, presented in 2023.
