Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

By failing to use firm proper terminology to label war crimes or other illegal and corrupt government policies, the NYT normalizies authoritarian actions. "Might" or "could have been" is not enough.

If they won't report on numbers they should retire from the news business. They've buried the story underneath Trump's chosen story of the day. They're scared of lawsuits and they've shirked their responsiblities to be the record of the day.

It is notable that the Times article did not mention this, which, in itself, should be a huge, ongoing scandal, particularly in light of all of the concern about condescension to ordinary Americans that the Democrats supposedly display.
