France is an EU country and under ECHR - if France isn’t considered safe then nowhere is. I am sympathetic if people have family ties here but I do not think it justifies a perilous sea crossing. We have a very high population density and crazy expensive housing. Numbers do matter, unfortunately

There is an obvious alternative to crossing a busy shipping route - remain in France. This applies even if one assumes 100% of people crossing would be eligible to claim asylum.
