Some more evidence for “bark stripping” , though this juvenile is not “stripping”, he is picking at the bark.

Not a common behaviour in Gibraltar, but I have witnessed three separate troops do this- what they have in common is that it is always on a Eucalyptus tree (Eucalyptus globulus)

Evolution, will you ever cease to amaze? Using camera traps to study the pollination of an African orchid by short-tongued hawkmoths, scent production was found to be synchronized with peak moth activity at dusk! As Brian Cox says...that's amazing! 🧪🌍👇

The eastern monarch butterfly population nearly doubled in 2025

“We recognize the key role of local communities, as well as the support of the government of Mexico in conserving the forest and providing this iconic species with the opportunity to thrive”

ETHOLOGY: Just hang on! Australian gall midges have been observed suspending themselves on spider silk for resting, without getting entangled. A clever trick to avoid predators?

Just Hang On: Australian Gall Midges Suspend Themselves on Spider Silk Without Becoming Entangled
Silk is a versatile biological material for its producers yet also introduces novel resources into the environment that non-silk producers can exploit. We provide observations of Australian gall midg....

A male juvenile Barbary macaque enjoys some exploring and foraging. You can clearly see his vestigial tail here, one of the features that still classify them as “monkeys” #barbarymacaque #primates #research #phd #gibraltar

Very interesting! Social learning at play- not something I have observed in Gibraltar

ETHOLOGY: A Barbary macaque was observed hand-clapping—a gesture never before described in this species! 🐵👏Bosshard et al. suggest it serves as an agonistic signal and has potentially been learned from humans. Fascinating insights into monkey communication! 🔍📢 #OpenAccess

Idiosyncrasy in Multimodal Gestural Communication: A Case Study of Hand‐Clapping in a Barbary Macaque (Macaca sylvanus)
An adult male Barbary macaque displays a novel gesture in the species' repertoire, that is, hand-clapping, which he uses for agonistic signalling. The individual directs the hand-clap at conspecifics....
