Some "weather-in-action" videos from yesterday's thunderstorm. Cold rain over warm water=fog. It was about 95°F before the storm and 82°F afterwards. Files are too big for Bluesky, but are here: flic.kr/s/aHBqjCpKf6 Special appearance by a dragonfly in the third video. Hope all is well with you!

Has anyone else thought about the intersection of the destruction of healthcare with the Big Ballistic Bill, RFK Jr.’s HHS, and ICE? Is the plan to kill off the “lower middle class”? More illnesses due to HHS policies and less ability to get medical care from the BBB, and deport anyone left.

Ok, just one more favorite cloud photo. This one was taken Dec. 28, 2011 at Shoreline Park at Mountain View, CA, at 6:19 pm. It reminds me of Van Gogh!

I also try to safely photograph lightning. The first is across a lake in our neighborhood (2022). The second is from my back yard (!)(2023) and the third I took after following a storm to the beach (Gulf of Mexico) after it passed my house (2024). I'm editing some lightning photos from last week!

I should specify that we were sailing south, from Sitka to Ketchikan. Going from the sunset side of the ship to seeing the roll cloud blew me away! Living in Silicon Valley restricted cloud viewing, and I'm fascinated by the variety here.

My metadata doesn't have lat/long, so all I can say is that it was in the evening, sailing from Sitka to Ketchikan on Monday, July 22, 2019. According to my cruise docs, sunset that night was at 9:33 pm. This photo gives more context, and the other shows what's on the other side of the ship.

Here are just a few more. The first is from a plane between CA & AL. The others are from an Alaskan cruise. The red sunset/rainbow was on one side of the ship, and the long roll cloud was on the other. Center object is a cruise ship. My best weather shots are at barbaravance.smugmug.com/Weather

I took the fog photos way back in 2017, so any response about wind direction would be wild guesswork! The sun halo was pretty much invisible to the naked eye, but the camera defined it well (same thing with the aurora we surprisingly had in Alabama in May of last year). We have a lot of sundogs.

Here are a few photos you might like - "spooky" fog coming ashore from the Gulf of Mexico in Orange Beach, and my one and only sun halo, taken in Gulf State Park looking across Lake Shelby towards the city of Gulf Shores.

Thanks! The time-lapse in December 2024 wasn't around any hurricanes, or even storms as I recall. Other photos from the same evening are here: flic.kr/s/aHBqjBVdsU. The clouds and sunsets here are amazing! Here's my Flickr albums if you'd like to poke around: www.flickr.com/photos/14965...
